Our Junior Section
CGC has a thriving junior section with over 50 junior members. Junior membership at CGC gives children the opportunity to use our excellent practice facilities, including the new all weather driving range bays and the 9 hole academy course which can be used to prepare them before going onto the the full course in order to get their official CDH handicap or just to sharpen up their short game once they have their handicap. Once their handicap is 18 or better they also qualify to play in the adult competitions.
The Junior section runs a full calendar of competitions throughout the year and also has representative teams taking part in a number of team events. We are currently well represented in Essex county training and team events as well as playing in the Youth Shield, Faldo Wedge and BCCS national knockout competitions.
CGC Junior Section provides children with the opportunity to play competitively or just to play for fun and enjoyment.

For the Under and Over 14 Categories, should a handicap be held, or use of the course be needed, the Essex Golf Union Fee of £20.50 for boys or £20.00 for girls will also be charged.

Our Success Stories
Well done to Ben David, one of our previous Junior members, who finished 6th in the 2019 MENA Tour “Journey to Jordan” order of merit. That put him through to final qualifying for the 2020 Asian Tour, in which he missed the cut by just 1 shot. He will still be playing tour events this year, so let’s hope he gets some good early results to increase the amount if invites he gets.
We have had a number of junior members in the past who have gone on to earn golf scholarships to US colleges, the latest of which is Max Maynard who headed Stateside last September and is doing well. Who will be next from our current crop of juniors I wonder?
Our Thornton Cup and Leslie Wood teams often have a number of junior members and past junior members representing the club in the county’s adult team events.
A number of our current junior members represent the county in their respective age groups and take part in the EGU community tour in Under 14 and Under 18 age groups. We are hoping to emulate the strong OOM finishes that we had last year.
Micah Blowers is playing in the British Junior Golf Tour again this season, he did brilliantly last year, could he win it this year maybe?
