Greenkeepers Report 24th November
Leaf clearing continues daily with collection when conditions allow.
Greens are still being mown daily. Fairways and tees have been mown as often as possible.
Additional post & rope for traffic management is now in situ on the 5th, 8th and 9th holes along with white lining where necessary.
James, Simon Bartlett and Josh Poole have attended a training day focussing on disease management.
The 18th ditch and pipework have been cleared and rodded.
Various paths have been edged and weeded; this work is on-going.
With the mats in place and the purple course now live, the yellow markers have been brought in ready for renovation.
Should conditions allow, greens aeration and fairway verti-draining will be taking place in the coming weeks.
Gillian Whittle, the Ladies' Captain, held a Captain's Winter Competition at Colchester Golf Club in a team of three format with the best two scores counting.
Romany Foster (16) Jenny Rose (18) and Mary Jardine (27) carded 61 points in this 14-hole competition to claim first place.
On a day starting dry the weather deteriorated with the winning team playing in the worst of the weather.
As is often the case good golf on the par threes is the secret to a decent score and with the winners collectively having five pars their handicaps did the rest.
Sheena Nunny (22), Wendy Smith (20) & Susan Rule (21) took second place with 56 points. Starting slowly was their problem and although they did pick up the pace the gap to the leaders was just too wide.
Elizabeth Bainbridge (33), Roberta Bodsworth (26) & Catherine Chick (14) was the third team in with a final score of 53 a score shared with Shelley Persent (15), Bee Pertwee (20) & Mandy Rix (7) who took fourth spot after a countback.
