Group Lesson Info

All Junior members are encouraged to attend the junior group coaching session which is given by one of the club professionals every Saturday  at midday  from April until October.

Juniors will be able to work on all aspects of their game and benefit from the experience of our team of pros.

Our Junior Section

CGC has a thriving junior section with over 50 junior members. Junior membership at CGC gives children the opportunity to use our excellent practice facilities, including the new all weather driving range bays and the 9 hole academy course which can be used to prepare them before going onto the the full course in order to get their official CDH handicap or just to sharpen up their short game once they have their handicap. Once their handicap is 18 or better they also qualify to play in the adult competitions.

The Junior section runs a full calendar of competitions throughout the year and also has representative teams taking part in a number of team events. We are currently well represented in Essex county training and team events as well as playing in the Youth Shield, Faldo Wedge and BCCS national knockout competitions.

CGC Junior Section provides children with the opportunity to play competitively or just to play for fun and enjoyment.

2019 Junior club championships

A field of 10 took part in the 36 hole junior club champs on Wednesday 28th August. Although the morning tee time was hindered by drizzle the weather improved quickly and stayed fine for the rest of the day. The morning scores were generally good with most players getting close to or below their handicaps; but Arian Masud’s excellent gross 69, which included 4 birdies, gave him a 5 shot lead going into the afternoon round. The PM field went out in reverse order based upon morning scores and a charge was made from the middle of the pack by Micah Blowers, playing off 7, with an awesome gross 71 (net 64) to put pressure on Arian. However another 3 birdies enabled him to match Micah’s 71 and give him the win with an aggregate 140. Micah took 2nd place and Edward Mason was 3rd with 157 (on countback). The net prize was won by Cody Zhou with 139, a great score considering he was cut from 18 to 14 just last week.

Prizes were awarded and Arian’s acceptance speech was significantly less impressive than his golf !! Something to work on then as he may need those skills more regularly if he continues to improve at the current rate.

2019 Essex Golf Union Community Tour

This year the county have increased the profile of this event, increasing the number of events to 11 with the best 6 results counting towards the order of merit. It began with an event hosted at CGC back in April and the final event was at Orsett golf club 2 weeks ago. All events have been very well attended and therefore difficult to win with some very high scores picking up the prizes through the summer. The CGC juniors have won and placed in a number of these events through the series and I am very proud to say that had 4 OOM prize winners:

Under 18s – Theo Baker 3rd place

Under 14s Cat 1&2 – Oliver Baker 4th place

Under 14s Cat 3,4,&5 – Edward Mason 1st, Alanna Matthews 3rd (Alanna Matthews also won top girl)

This tour will grow and grow so let’s hope we can continue to get some success and also represent CGC admirably via a high level of etiquette and behaviour on and off the course.

Our Sucecss Stories

Well done to Ben David, one of our previous Junior members, who is currently 9th in the MENA Tour “Journey to Jordan” order of merit. He will be heading back to the Middle East in September to compete in the remaining 4 events with a target of reaching the Final in Jordan on 24th November

We have had a number of junior members in the past who have gone on to earn golf scholarships to US colleges, the latest of which is Max Maynard who is heading Stateside this September to start his 3 year course.

Our Thornton Cup team always has a number of junior members and past junior members representing the club in the county’s blue riband team event.

A number of our current junior members represent the county in their respective age groups and take part in the EGU community tour in Under 14 and Under 18 age groups, they are all currently highly placed in their respective Orders of Merit.

Micah Blowers is playing in the British Junior Golf Tour this season and is flying high in the order of merit, good luck to him for the rest of the schedule.
